Active Directory Validation
Created by Orckestra
C1 CMS Versions supported
This package requires CMS version 5.0 or newer (Build: 5.0.5827.21806).
Pre-Installation Steps
To match the CMS Console users to their Active Directory counterparts, you should take a few steps:
- Create an administrator in the CMS Console to match the AD user
- Install the Composite.Tools.C1Console.ActiveDirectoryValidation package
- Set a proper authentication method on the /Composite folder on the website.
- Create CMS Console users to match other users in the Active Directory.
Once the installation and setup steps listed above are complete, the Windows authentication for the CMS Console will be in effect.
Creating a С1 Console Admin for an Active Directory user
Before you install the package, you are required to create at least one administrator account in the CMS Console matched to the Active Directory user.
- Make sure that the "Administrators" group exists in Orckestra CMS, which is a user group with:
- the "Administrate" global permission enabled
- and access to the Users perspective
- In the Users perspective, add a user.
- In its Name field, specify the username of an existing Active Directory user, without the domain prefix. For example, if the AD user is 'contoso\c1admin', create a user named 'c1admin'.
- In its Password field, specify any password. This password will be ignored and not be used with the Windows authentication.
- Fill out other fields as needed and click OK.
- Assign this user the Administrators group on the Permission tab.
Later you can create other CMS Console users to match other AD users.
Installation steps
- Log into the CMS Console as an administrator.
- Go to the "System" perspective.
- Open the folders “Packages” | “Available Packages” | " Composite.Tools".
- Select " Composite.Tools.C1Console.ActiveDirectoryValidation" and click “Install”.
- Complete the wizard.
Post-Installation Steps
- Exit the CMS Console after the installation.
Note: In some cases, the installation can end with a login screen. This is expected: the package changes the authentication method in Orckestra CMS. Simply close the tab/window with the CMS Console.
Setting Authentication Mode in IIS
- In IIS Manager, expand the website folder structure.
- Select the subfolder
~/Composite
on your website. - Open its Authentication configuration.
- Enable Basic Authentication.
- Disable all the other authentication methods.
Note: To avoid a popup window for entering your Active Directory credentials, you can enable "Windows Authentication" instead of "Basic Authentication" in Step 4 above.
Now you can log in to the CMS Console.
