Logging in to the CMS Console with AD credentials
With the Basic Authentication enabled on IIS, when you log in to the CMS Console for the first time, you'll be asked to enter your username and password in a popup window. You should use your Active Directory credentials and the user name should be prefixed with the domain name, e.g. "contoso\johndoe".
With the Windows Authentication enabled on IIS, you will not be asked for your username/password in Internet Explorer and Google Chrome and logged into the CMS Console automatically. You'll be asked for your username/password in Firefox, though, unless you configure this browser as follows:
- In Firefox, enter 'about:config' the address bar.
- Find the parameter 'network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris'.
- Set this parameter to the URI of your website.
Next time, you'll be logged in to the CMS Console automatically.
Matching Active Directory and CMS Console users
Matching Active Directory users and CMS Console users can be two-way. Let's consider a more common case: matching existing Active Directory users to CMS Console users you are about to create.
For each Active Directory user you want to log in to the CMS Console:
- In the Users perspective, add a user.
- In its Name field, specify the username of an existing Active Directory user, without the domain prefix. For example, if the AD user is 'contoso\johndoe', create a user named 'johndoe'.
- In its Password field, specify any password. This password will be ignored and not be used with the Windows authentication.
- Fill out other fields as needed and click OK.
- Assign the user a proper role by selecting one or more user groups on the Permission tab.
Trial version
If you are using a trial version of the package, it will expire in 30 days. After that, the AD users other than the administrator will not be able to log in to the CMS Console and will be redirected to the "shopcart" page.
The AD user who is an administrator in the CMS Console will be able to log in and a trial expiration message will pop up. Every time any user logs into the CMS Console, this message will pop up.
After the trial version expires, you should purchase and install the commercial license for this package. This will remove the restrictions.
